Turn off Quickbooks company file hosting and rename the QuickBooks company file with the .nd file extension.

In case you’re not a pro-advisor…turn off hosting:
To start this process restart your computer & then hold down the Ctrl key down then double-click the QBs icon and open the QuickBooks program without opening the company file.
Choose the “File” menu and select the “Utilities” option, after all that stress and worry, select the option “Stop Hosting Multi-User Access”.
Now at the last step, when asked to confirm be sure to choose the “yes” option.

QuickBooks software also opens the Company file. Before you try to open your company file on any other system, it is recommended to open it from a computer where it is located.

Why this error occurs?
QuickBooks software cannot use the right way to open any company file.

How to resolve this error?
Intuit suggests four different solutions to resolve this error. You may be satisfied with solution 1, or there is a chance of trying four solutions to fix the problem. If you want to get the best results, Intuit recommends practicing these solutions orderly.

Solution 1: Move the company file to the local hard drive
Navigate the company file from the server to the C drive.
Open the company file in the QuickBooks software from C drive.
Make an easily portable file and then save the company file to the local C drive.
Close the company file.
Restore the portable file from the C drive and save it to the server.
Select your company file.
Try to open the file from your server.
If the error does not resolve even after performing these steps, you must practice all the four Solutions.
Solution 2: The version of your QuickBooks software must be the updated
Visit the web page i.e. Update to the Latest Release
Tip: Make the selection of your product sure. But, if it is not selected, click on the Choose a different product.
Choose and perform the steps for any one of the given update options: Manual or Automatic.
Solution 3: Run the Application of QuickBooks File Doctor
Download QuickBooks software, install it, and run this application.

Solution 4: Resolve the error -6177, 0 manually without involving QuickBooks File Doctor tool
If QuickBooks File Doctor is unable to run on your system or you want to practice manual solution, you can follow these steps:
Work on a system that saves your QuickBooks company files and close all applications of QuickBooks software.
Delete automatically created Network Descriptor file:
Open the specific folder that contains the company file and find out a file along with the Network Descriptor file extension. You will see it as MyCompanyFileName.QBW.ND.
Right-click the Network Descriptor file and select the Delete option. Organize QuickBooks Database Manager:
Click the Start button of Windows and select Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
Important Note: If you use Windows 8, press the Windows logo on your keyboard, type QuickBooks Database Manager, and click QuickBooks Database Manager.
Click the button of Add Folder.
Use the company file to find out the folder then click OK.
Practice steps 3b and step 3c and repeat these steps to add more folders.
Click the Scan option. The list of QuickBooks company files found displays all the files hosted by QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
When the scan completes, click the Close option.
See in the Windows to check the file access permissions.
To share the company files, visit Set up folder permissions web page and confirm that the permissions are correctly set up.
In case of setting permissions for the QuickBooks software, simply Set access permissions for QuickBooks software content.
If you have installed full application on the server:
Switch off & Switch on hosting
Open the QuickBooks software.
Select the File > Utilities > Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, and verify it by clicking Yes.
Close the QuickBooks software on your windows computer and open it again.
Select the File > Utilities > Host Multi-User Access, and then confirm it by clicking Yes.
Open the QuickBooks company file:
Open the QuickBooks software 2007 and the later version: Select the File > Open or you can Restore the Company
For the QuickBooks 2006: Select the File > Open Company
Open the QuickBooks company file via local path
The files opened on hosting system sometimes create the-6177, 0 error message:
Make sure if the company file is stored on the network drive:
See on the keyboard and open the Computer window by pressing the Windows logo + E.
If the file folder of your company appears in the Network Devices or Network Locations, right-click file folder, and choose the Properties.
A typed Network Drive is a recorded drive.
Open the QuickBooks company file through the local drive.
Create another folder
Using the keyboard of the server, open Computer Window by pressing Windows + E.
Double-click on C drive.
Make another folder. See how to create it:
On Windows 8: Click on Home and then click the New Folder option.
On Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click on New Folder.
On Windows XP: Select the File > New > Folder.
Open the new data file folder and copy or navigate the QuickBooks company files to the recently created new folder.
